A belated post in which I pretend it didn't take me months to share that
I sold my debut novel!
Clementine, or The Jellyfish Problem is a little bit sci-fi, a little bit spooky, and a whole lot gay. Inspired by my problematic love affair with the movie Jaws, it follows marine biologist Josephine Ness on her quest to understand a gigantic, magnificent, rule-breaking jellyfish named Clementine—and maybe relearn how to get close to other people in the process. Here's the iconic Publishers Marketplace screenshot so you know I'm not making it up:

I just surfaced from my first round of revisions and will dive back in (the scuba puns are strong with this one) later this spring. My final manuscript is due June 1, and the book will be published by Berkley approximately one year later. For now, I'm celebrating my revision-reprieve by reading for fun again and luxuriating in mornings that don't involve rolling out of bed and directly into a Word document.
I'll be posting updates to this page as they become available. In the meantime, enjoy this photo of a beautiful moon jellyfish, which Clementine definitely is not, but which Jo visualizes when she's stressed out. (Spoiler alert: Jo is frequently very stressed out in this book. Poor Jo).
